UPDATE: 10/20/16

In 5th Grade we've started working on "We Didn't Start The Fire" by Billy Joel. It's rather amazing all the history that this song covers. Here are videos from each home room teachers class on the first time that the material was introduced. We've got a super star in Mrs. Peacocks class who already knew all the words!

Also, Dr. Miear stopped by to see what was going on in the music room at Margaret Beeks. He took a quick little video. Let's call it a sneak peek of "Bad Blood" by Taylor Swift.

In 4th Grade, we've started a few new tunes including this special one. "The Office Theme Song" from the TV show that everyone's parents know and love (or at least that's what the students say). This is a snippet of Ms. Shupe's Class working on the piece at the end of a class period.

3rd and 4th Graders: Little Trains can be practiced at home on recorder. LET'S SEE IT HAPPEN!!!! Below I have put a video of myself through it so we can really see which fingers are moving when along with the slide from class. Let's hit more of the correct notes in class next time! We will continue to work on the accompaniment in class and start to sound more together.

Here is a snippet from class today. We still got some work to go but this is a starting point!

UNTIL THE NEXT UPDATE, DO SOMETHING FUN AND PRODUCTIVE!

Welcome!

Welcome to the Margaret Beek's Music Blog!

Here (https://margaretbeeksmusic.blogspot.com/) you will find videos of the songs we are working on in class. These videos and post could and will range from me, you, and of the original songs we may be covering. Any news that needs to go home will go home by paper but will also be posted here. Updates will posted frequently like when our first concert is! (More information will be coming on that soon. GET PUMPED!)

Currently in 4th Grade, we've been working on "Ain't No Sunshine" by Bill Withers. If you would like to listen to it outside of class, here it is! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIdIqbv7SPo

In 3rd and 4th grade we have just started our work on recorders. Thank you so so so so so so so much to all the parents who contributed and also who gave extra to those in need. It has made several children's day as well as given them the opportunity to play outside of class. In class we've started the tune "It's in the B.A.G!" "Old Tom White" and "French Song." Below is a video of me playing the songs so you can hear them or play along. Plus the music if by chance it was left at school.

HAPPY PRACTICING! GO FOR IT :) I PROMISE IT WON'T HURT A BIT!

And just so you know: Hot Cross Buns goes like this:
B      A       G
B      A       G
GGGG AAAA
B      A       G

A (thumb 12)
G (thumb 123)

Anyone that would like a little more help figuring out the notes on the staff: These two sheets might be helpful :)

Thanks for being great students and great parents. This will hopefully open up a new line of communication between the classroom and home. I can't wait to see where the rest of the year takes us. If you ever have questions about anything feel free to email me at joeyballard@mcps,org

Best Wishes,
Mr. Joey Ballard
